Have you heard of pectin? Sounds like a funny name, doesn’t it? Pectin, so we call it a heteropolysaccharide, so it’s basically a sugar, a natural sugar found in fruits, especially things like apricots and plums and beautiful peaches, which we are eating at the moment, we’ve got tree full of peaches. It’s found in berries. It’s found in different types. There’s also citrus fruit it’s found in, so pectin is used, is actually produced commercially like in a powder. You’ve got the high methoxy and the low methoxy pectin. So the high methoxy one will set really fast for like chunky kind of marmalades and all that crap with all the sugar in it, which is stuff I don’t really like. It’s too sweet.
But pectin’s found in apples quite a lot. You can also get different forms of pectin, MCP, modified citrus pectin, I believe it is. So it’s modified, so the molecules are made a lot smaller for it to get through and be much more easily transported and utilized through the gut. But my idea is what the hell do you want pectin for? Just eat apples, eat fruit, don’t just buy powdered stuff that sort of comes from fruit or it’s artificially contrived. If you really want to get the benefits of pectin, eat an apple for goodness sakes. Okay? Eat a citrus fruit. All right? Don’t buy powder, you’re going to get far more benefit from the whole fruit.

I’ll even eat the white pith of the fruit. So we’ve got about 30 citrus trees growing in the, and grapefruits, the small star ruby grapefruits and my favorite, they’re the pink grapefruits, and they’re actually quite a sweetish kind of taste, but they’ve got a nice wide pith through them, which is very high in pectin. So I tend to eat one grapefruit per day when they’re in season. I love them. I think they’re fantastic. So they’re good for liver. And their nice and biter, they help for your body to secrete bile more effectively. They’re high in flavonoids.
So you know, there are a lot of reasons why you want to eat the whole fruit as opposed to the powder, which has just got that sugar in it. When you start eating the whole fruit, you’re going to get the benefit of the vitamin C, all the flavonoids, all the fiber, everything that comes with that food. It’s a lot more common sensical than just scooping a bit of powder out of the tub, isn’t it? Make sense to me. Eat real food, makes a big difference.
