Sometimes when people do a Candida cleanse, they get a little too enthusiastic and passionate. As a result, they plow head-on into the cleanse and do far too much, too soon.
The problem is that people underestimate what can happen during a cleanse. It’s a bit like how people underestimate how they are going to feel after going to the gym for the first time in ages. If you go too fast, too soon at the gym, you’ll end up feeling sore all over. That’s the problem with going ka-pow, whether at the gym or with a Candida cleanse.
If you go too hard right off the bat with a Candida cleanse, you could end up feeling very unwell. If you’ve got a significant problem with Candida, you need to take it very, very easy. Take it nice and slow because you have plenty of time. What that means is you shouldn’t be making very powerful diet changes within a very short amount of time. Don’t take too many supplements or too high a dose. If you do either, you could end up feeling sicker and sicker. I’ve even seen people who are sicker months after they started a cleanse.

In some cases, people who are pushing the Candida cleanse too hard are told by their naturopath or functional medicine doctor, “You’re fine. You’re just pushing out poisons. It’s a Herxheimer reaction. Keep going. Keep going.” That’s not good advice. If you feel sick while doing a Candida cleanse, stop it and see what happens. You should recover. Then start the cleanse again but at a much slower rate.
Don’t be impatient. Impatience is one of the biggest problems I see in my clinic. People want to get better too soon, and then they regret it. You know the old saying, “Act in haste, repent at leisure.” Well, don’t act in haste. Take your time when you do a cleanse. You’ll save yourself a lot of suffering if you take the slow and steady approach to Candida cleansing.
