Frequently Asked Questions #5

1. My doctor made a link between good gut health and chewing your food well. What is that link?

Eric Bakker, naturopath and expert in all things Candida, has discussed the importance of chewing your food properly for maintaining a good gut health. Good chewing capability means your food will be broken down to proper small sizes. The small sized food will aid the stomach in breaking food down. This means that you’re going to get good digestion, absorption, and excretion of the food wastes. But it also means you’re going to break the food down properly to give the small intestine and the large intestine the right particle size to build beneficial bacteria up.

So you see, your doctor is absolutely correct. When our good gut flora is killed, our gut is lined and our immunity is compromised. Having a good gut health is very important in ensuring that our body does not get a candida overgrowth. Once this opportunistic infection takes over, it not only dominates our gut health but also other parts of the body. Candida overgrowth has been associated to an array of diseases and discomforts in a person.

However, chewing your food properly is not only good in preventing gut and health problems, it can also aid in maximizing the absorption of nutrients, help in maintaining your weight, and you’ll experience lesser gas and bloating. Remember the longer you chew, the better it impacts your health in the long term. So enjoy your food and chew slowly!

2. I get constant eye infections. What could be the reason?

Like other parts of our body, the eye is not immune to infections and is prone to getting viruses, parasites, bacteria as well. Though rare in nature, they can occur. Candida, if present in more numbers than healthy, can cause ocular candidiasis. Symptoms can include eye pain, itchiness, and sensitivity to light, blurred and compromised vision, under bags, etc.

Most common causes of candida are the following: if you have taken a round of anti-biotics, if you have poor eating habits, unmanaged emotional stress, alcohol consumption, eating lots of food with sugar and carbs, etc. When candida is overgrown in numbers compared to the good gut bacteria, it can overtake the lining of the gastrointestinal tract. It can make tiny holes in the inner membranes, leaking yeast into the blood stream. This is also known as leaky gut syndrome. This is how candida invades parts of the body not close to the stomach or the gut. If left untreated, it can definitely impact the eye causing an infection, which can even lead to blindness. Other risk factors for ocular candidiasis include albicans species and visual symptoms. Treating ocular candidiasis include antifungal therapy or intravitreal injection of the antifungal agent.

If you suspect having candida, get a proper diagnosis from a doctor. If unsure where to begin, you can take the most comprehensive quiz online created by Eric Bakker which can help you determine the level of candida you may be dealing with. The quiz can be found here: https://quiz.yeastinfection.org/

3. Why are the whites in my eye yellow? Do I have jaundice or is it something else?

The yellowing of the eye is most commonly related to jaundice. Jaundice is when the skin, mucous membranes, the whites of the eye are yellow, due to an increased amount of bilirubin in the blood. The other possible causes are related to problems with the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, etc. Candida could also be the cause behind elevated bilirubin levels depending on the level of fungal candida you may have. If the levels of your candida are really high where they may attack red blood cells, it can cause some unbroken down red blood cells.

An overgrowth of candida in the gut can cause an excess release of bile straining the liver, which can cause an increase in bilirubin. This could be the reason for why the white in your eye has a yellow hue. If you haven’t already, seek out your doctor’s professional opinion. Get tested for jaundice and if that is what is causing the yellow, start the appropriate treatment.

Treating for any problems that may cause bodily discomfort or pain is always a good idea. A weakened immune system is a gateway for candida to multiply. It can impact the gut flora and if present in excess, it can be hard to heal the gut, which can cause many other problems.

4. I don’t have a cold or a flu but have had flu like symptoms, mostly a congested sinus, for a while now. Why is that?

There is such a thing known as fungal sinus infection caused by a candida overgrowth in the body. How can you make the difference between a regular bacterial infection versus a fungal one? It may be hard to spot the differences at first as most of the symptoms are very similar. You will experience fever, coughing, nasal discharge, loss of smell etc. However, what differentiates the two is the length of how long you’ve had the infection for. A chronic fungal sinus infection is long term and more severe.

How you got a fungal sinus infection probably started with you getting a bacterial sinus infection. If you treated your infection with antibiotics, you probably felt good for a while but if you have underlying yeast infection, the antibiotic just killed most of the bacteria present in your gut and gave candida the opportunity to overgrow in numbers. This can cause further sinus infection with blockage and inflammation and fungal growth in the sinuses.

Treating a fungal sinus infection with antibiotics, just as you do with a bacterial infection, is not recommended. Since it’s fungal, candida may be the cause. A sinus caused by a fungal infection may occur if fungal organisms are inhaled. These organisms make home in the nasal passageways causing inflammation. In most cases, surgery is required to get rid of the fungal infection. In some cases, chronic sinus infection can also be treated with antifungals and nose sprays.  If you are further interested in this topic, this study published in pubmed goes into details on this very subject.

5. There is blood in my stool. How is that related to my gut problems?

Candidiasis, overgrowth of candida, occurs most commonly in two parts of the body: the mouth and the vagina. However, an overgrowth can also happen in the intestines. When this happens, candida can appear in one’s stool as white, stringy material (think cottage cheese). Candidiasis of the intestines can cause craving for sweets (candida uses glucose to thrive) and flatulence.

When there is blood present in the stool, your gastrointestinal tract is most likely inflamed. Diseases like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis cause inflammation in the GI tract. One sign of these inflammatory bowel diseases is blood in stool. When the environment of the intestine has been comprised by inflammation, candida can grow higher in numbers and compromise the health of your gut flora.

While blood in stool does not directly mean the presence of a yeast infection, it can definitely indicate the health of your GI in general. If you have never tested your stool, ask your doctor to test the stool for Crohn’s or other problems. The test results can tell you if you have an overgrowth of candida in the body or if there are other reasons for the presence of the blood. Once that has been determined, you can follow recommendations on how to restore healthy gut flora to fight candida.

Frequently Asked Questions #4

1. Why do I have bad breath even though I have good oral hygiene?

Sugar is a problem. If you are consuming sugar, it can be the cause behind your bad breath. Mouth washes and brushing your teeth often is just a band aid for a problem that needs work from within. In this video, Eric Bakker explains the link between sugar cravings, the snacking, and the bad breath.

First, he advises the person in question to buy three or four toothbrushes. Use tea tree oil toothpaste to brush your teeth twice a day, even three times a day. Brush your gums and tongue gently along with your teeth. Throw the toothbrush after 4 to 6 weeks of use. Some people use the same toothbrush for months or even years.

Oral hygiene does not just stop at brushing your teeth, but also taking care of your gums and your tongue. He explains how our teeth is like a tree. The white part you see is the trunk of the tree coming out of the ground. The gum is really the soil where the tree is going into and the roots. Because the roots of the tree trunk grow in. Taking care of a tree does not stop at the watering part. It takes more to keep a tree healthy, help it to grow strong and last years.

The same idea applies when it comes to taking care of your teeth. If you look after your overall mouth hygiene, you will keep the oral cavity away. By keeping the cavity away, you will help your digestion. Eric Bakker elaborates that good teeth mean good chewing capability, breaking food down to proper small material size. Small size food will aid the stomach in breaking food down. This means that you’re going to get good digestion, absorption, and excretion of the food wastes. But it also means you’re going to break the food down properly to give the small intestine and the large intestine the right particle size to build beneficial bacteria up. This is something people don’t really think of. Poor oral health leads to poor digestive health. Poor oral health also leads to bad bacterial health upstream and downstream.

Follow the oral cleansing regime he outlines at the end of his video and you will notice changes to your breathe in a few weeks to a month.

2. I am a student and I find it extremely hard to keep my concentration. I have tested negative for ADD/ADHD. What else could it be?

When our body’s immune system is weakened, harmful particles such as bacteria, yeast, can overgrow causing problems for the body. One such situation is when the good bacteria is killed in larger numbers for whatever reason, candida will take the opportunity to take over and spread across the body.

We know now that our gut health affects our brain’s health. Most of the hormones are either partially or fully made in the gut. If there is a candida, or yeast overgrowth, a person can feel one or many of the following symptoms: hard to concentrate, brain fog, headaches, depression, anxiety, irritability, etc. In such cases, candida travels through the body by leaking into the bloodstream, affecting most human organs, including the brain. Candida overgrowth causes a state of drunkenness in those who experience it. People complain that they are unable to do anything and they feel a lot of mental ordeals that cannot be explained otherwise. All this occurs due to the imbalance of yeast vs bacteria in our gut.

To help increase your concentration, try taking coconut oil daily as it is an excellent supplement. You can take 1 tbsp, but can increase it to 4 tbsps per day. It has been shown that coconut oil fights against candida overgrowth and other infections, as well as promotes memory strength. You can also take vitamin B-12, magnesium, and amino acids as nutritional deficiencies in any of these may affect energy and mental focus. For further reading, refer to Eric Bakker’s piece on this topic here: https://www.yeastinfection.org/poor-concentration-brain-fog-candida/

3. Why do I have loss of memory? I don’t have any family history of amnesia or schizophrenia.

In a recent study conducted in John Hopkins, researchers found that men with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder had a history of candida yeast infection compared to group of men who did not have any of these disorders. Additionally, their research also demonstrated that women with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder who had candida performed relatively lower on a standard memory test than a group of women with schizophrenia or bipolar disease without the presence of candida in their history. This is very telling as it sets a connection between having candida and some sort of loss of memory in that person and further supports the fact that lifestyle and gut health can play a huge role in having some sort of psychiatric disorders and memory impairment in a person.

For people who have gone through all sorts of medical testing to see why they are having loss of memory, it could be frustrating to feel the way they do. If they have never heard of candida, it could be hard to fathom that their loss of memory is somehow connected with the health of their gut. If you are unsure whether you have candida, you can find out by taking the following comprehensive test tailored by Eric Bakker, expert in the field: https://quiz.yeastinfection.org/.

You can also read the following research paper: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/05/160504121327.htm.

4. Why do I have constant severe headaches? I also get bad backaches.

Is there a connection between headaches and candida? A severe headache, also known as a migraine, can be quite debilitating. It causes physical and emotional pain accompanied by nausea, sensitivity to light, dizziness, lack of balance, and often chills. Some even compare migraines to a really bad case of being hangover.

Candida can cause severe headache, along with similar feeling of a hangover. It does so by creating its own alcohol in the body by using sugar and carbs as its food. If you are unable to find an underlying cause to your migraines, look into getting tested for candida overgrowth. Candida is responsible for also excreting mycotoxins in our body, which is the culprit behind many of our discomforts. Furthermore, candida can create ethanol which streams through our blood. Ethanol is one of the toxins that cause migraines, along with brain fog and dizziness in a person.

If you are tested positive with candida overgrowth, it might be worth a shot to go on a candida cleanse. Patients who have conducted the cleanse swear by it. You may see results just a few days after the cleanse. Headaches, dizziness, confusion, inability to concentrate are some of the symptoms that start disappearing on the cleanse. Not sure where to begin with the cleanse? Watch Eric Bakker’s video on how to do a proper cleanse and get rid of candida overgrowth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=924&v=VwUBdS-dPZM

5. I keep getting skin rashes. The dermatologist has ruled out any allergies.

Candida Albicans, commonly known as yeast infection, are caused by a yeast-like fungi in 90% of the population. Candida is extremely opportunistic. In most cases, they are kept in check by friendly bacteria. However, in some cases, they can be of concern when the friendly bacteria are no longer present. In some people, it shows up as a vaginal infection, oral thrush and in some, it appears as a skin infection.

If you keep getting skin rashes often and have no explanation for it, it could be that the cause of these skin rashes is candida. On the skin, candida can grow as jock itch. It is found on genitals, the thigh region, buttocks, etc. If your doctor has ruled out all allergies, they can take sample of the rash by skin scraping, nail clippings from the affected site for a thorough examination.

Treatment to help with the skin rashes are available over the counter. If that fails, your doctor may prescribe antifungal creams, or ointments which can be used topically on the skin. A great at home remedy is coconut oil, made popular for its antifungal properties. Many people swear by it. Grapefruit seed extract is another common treatment option for candida overgrowth. Wear your clothes exposed to the rash once. Thoroughly wash any fabric that comes into contact with the infection. Always dry the affected area properly as candida loves moist and damp areas to live on.

Frequently Asked Questions #3

1. Why do I keep feeling hunger even after eating a full and balanced meal?

It’s possible that your constant need to satisfy your hunger is related to the overgrowth of our least favorite infection – the overgrowth of candida in your body. If you are not already aware of candida, let me refresh your memory. We have billions, if not trillions, of bacteria inside our gut. The good news it that we all have good gut bacteria. Alongside our good bacteria live a balanced mix of yeast. When the balance between the two is disrupted and the good bacteria are present in less numbers than the pesky yeast, then a candida overgrowth is imminent.

If you should know one thing about candida is that it lives off sugar and carb. If left unchecked, it will multiply and symptoms can show up in a person’s behavior and mood, eating habits and much more. When disrupted in the vaginal cells, it shows up as a vaginal yeast infection. Because candida thrives on sugar and carb, to keep its hold in the body, it causes the person to be constantly hungry and crave foods that contain high sugar and carbs in them.

Research shows that most of our hormones are made up in our intestines, including the hormones that regulate eating behaviours and appetite. If your gut is not healthy, your good bacteria will be taken over by the opportunistic Candida, which will do its best to survive at all costs. To recalibrate the balance of your good gut bacteria and keep a tight lid on candida, limit your carb and sugar intake. If you are unsure if your constant hunger and craving is related to candida, take the following comprehensive test which can give you an idea of whether you should be concerned or not: https://quiz.yeastinfection.org/

2. I have a tingling feeling in my nipples and it hurts when my baby latches on if he has a good latch.

A breastfeeding mother has already so many things to worry about – the constant attention from the baby, ensuring baby is well fed, clothed and clean, taking care of other children if there are any, etc. Add to the mix, a tough time breastfeeding her little one. A first time mother may find that there are lots of things that come with breastfeeding – both good and bad. First and foremost, the breastfeeding mother must make sure that the baby’s latch on her breast is correct. Most of the pain that mothers encounter is always due to the poor latch of the baby. Once you and your baby have mastered the art of proper latching, and you find that your nipples are still sore, tingle or are in pain after many weeks, it can be very concerning and stressful.

Nipple soreness can be due to many reasons: improper latch, not properly taking care of cracked nipples, using a pump incorrectly, or an infection. If you and your baby have had pain free nursing prior to this feeling, you most likely have a nipple thrush. Symptoms include a burning sensation, pain during and after breastfeeding, inflammation and swelling, irritation. It could be that you do not feel all symptoms but only one in your breast, and in that case, you can examine your baby’s mouth to see if you find a white coating on their tongue. Thrush in babies can also manifest itself as a nasty diaper rash. It is worth noting that some mothers get tingling sensation during the let-down reflux. This is when the milk is flowing down from your breast when the baby is sucking.

If you are uncertain about having thrush, it is important that you visit your doctor for a proper diagnosis as soon as you can. Candida is opportunistic. It will grow and spread quickly if you do not take the appropriate actions. In the meantime, you can use raw unrefined coconut oil on your breasts. It can help with the burning sensation and even kill yeast if used regularly. Similarly, you can use coconut oil to treat baby’s yeast infection rash.

3. I have a bad case of acid reflux. How can I treat it?

Acid reflux is common both in adults and babies. It happens when the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) in our stomach is unable to close all the way or when it opens too often, pushing up the acid produced by your stomach. This causes heartburn and feels very uncomfortable. Acid reflux is further exuberated if your diet consists of junk food, alcohol, caffeine, if you smoke or if you are overweight, if you eat large meals before your bedtime.

If you are constantly battling with heartburn or acid reflux, you may want to look into the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori bacterial infection in your body. H. Pylori is known to cause ulcers, but recent studies demonstrate that it can also cause reflux. It can be identified using a simple blood or breath test. If you do have h. pylori, treating this bacterial infection can eliminate reflux. However, you will have to ensure that you treat this bacteria in the appropriate manner. Medications prescribed to help with this bacteria may kill other good bacteria, leaving candida to multiply and overgrow in your body, which we all know is not something you want to happen in your body.

Eric Bakker has a very comprehensive and detailed article on reflux and h. pylori which you can read here: https://ericbakker.com/heartburn/. You can also check out this video that he has created on the subject here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFsLIMXebBo

4. Why does my vagina have a fishy odor? I don’t see any discharge.

First, let’s make it clear that every woman has a natural odor down there. The odor can change throughout a menstrual cycle. It can also be impacted by what she eats during the day. Many times, poor hygiene or lack of it, tight clothing which cling to your lower body that trap bacteria can cause unpleasant smells. Not all odors or smells are innocent though. STDs can cause a certain odor as well. Similarly, an infection, an overgrowth of bacteria, can cause a fishy odor too.

Symptoms of a candida overgrowth are mostly vaginal itching, swelling around the labia, burning during or pain during sex and urination. A yeast infection also causes vaginal discharge, similar looking to a cottage cheese. However, a smelly happens when there is an imbalance of bacteria and yeast causing a bacterial vaginosis. In a BV, the normal bacteria in your vagina overgrows compared to other organisms.

If you suspect that you have a yeast infection, do not use scented products which claim to help take away the odor. They can disturb the natural fluids, which help in cleaning the vagina, that exist in there. These products can also cause irritation which can lead to uncomfortable feelings. For at home remedy, clear the area outside of your vagina with water and soap. Pat it dry so that yeast does not multiply as it loves moist and dark places.

5. I keep getting vaginal discharge, but my general doctor said I didn’t have anything.

Vaginal discharge most often is an indication of a yeast infection. This happens when candida in the vaginal area overgrows. Symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection are the following: itching around the vaginal area, burning sensation, swelling of the vagina, cottage cheese like discharge, pain during sex, rash around the vaginal area. Unlike bacterial vaginosis, a vaginal yeast infection does not cause any strong odor.

Because some symptoms of the yeast infection can resemble STIs, many professionals discourage patients from self diagnosing themselves. In the event that the infection is an STI, treating it for yeast infection might prolong the whole process of healing. Buying over the counter products to treat the infection may further cause itchiness and burning. If your doctor is unsure that you have a yeast infection based on your symptoms, you can ask them to conduct an inspection of the vagina and vulva to see if any signs of infection can be seen. You can also ask them to take a sample of your vaginal secretions and make a diagnosis based on that.

Please note that women get vaginal discharge after giving birth. This discharge is different from the discharge one would get if they have a yeast infection. After birth, women shed a lot blood, tissue from the lining of the uterus and bacteria. No treatment is required for this sort of discharge as it’s a normal part of post partum period.

Frequently Asked Questions #2

1. Why can’t I lose weight despite going on multiple diets and following different exercises?

Losing weight and keeping those extra pounds at bay is something most people struggle with. Add to that the possibility that your weight loss journey may be hindered by an infection. We are talking about a candida overgrowth in your body. Candida can wreak havoc to your weight loss plans by affecting your metabolism.

Since candida thrives on sugar and uses it as its main source of fuel, it may be causing you to crave sugar. Due to the cravings, consuming sugars and carbs can aid candida in multiplying furthermore in your body. This can lead to excess weight gain for those suffering from this condition.

Candida is also responsible for disrupting hormones. The hormonal imbalance in your body can also lead to weight gain. Candida can release two toxins in the body which impair nerve and liver functioning: ethanol (alcohol) and acetaldehyde. Having the large amounts of alcohol flowing through your blood can burden your live, which affect your blood sugar levels, which in turn can cause you to put weight.

Fortunately, you do not have to live with this condition forever. If you take the right measures, you can be on top of your candida infection. If you are unsure whether you have candida or not, take the following comprehensive quiz which can determine the levels of candida that you may be dealing with: https://quiz.yeastinfection.org/

2. How important is it to eat gut friendly foods to sustain long term good health?

It is very important! We know now that gut friendly foods help us sustain good long term health, both physically and mentally. However, this takes patience and time. If you have been consuming junk foods most of your life, making the change to eating gut friend foods might be a little hard at first. But it’s not too late to start. The beauty about our bodies is that it is continuously renewing and generating. In just about 24 hours, your body is capable of replacing existing microbes with new ones.

If you diligently follow a healthy gut friend diet, in a few months, your body will respond. You will feel the fog lift up, the dizziness disappear. Those who have followed a Candida cleanse diet have felt the difference in their mood, their behaviours and overall wellbeing. In modern times, it might be hard to find foods that are gut friendly. Most foods found nowadays are processed, high in amounts of sugar and carbs – all things that can lead to a candida overgrowth in the body if not kept in check.

If you are having a hard time incorporating the foods as part of your diet, you can always look into incorporating probiotics and prebiotics in your diet in the form of supplements (pills, drinks, powder). Taking them at the same time daily can lead to a healthy routine. In the following video, Eric Bakker talks about the importance of bacteria in our digestive tract: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6zNb6rAjuo

3. My doctor says I need to eat foods that promote good gut bacteria. Why is that?

There are around 30 to 40 trillion bacteria which work hard to keeping your gut healthy and promoting a balanced mind and body equation. This can only happen if you are treating your body with respect and putting in it the right food which promotes good gut bacteria and flora.

We now know, through research, that gut health is important to producing neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, etc to regulate your mood. The microbes found in our gut are also responsible in affecting the way our body stores fat, regulates glucose in our blood, and so much more. The good gut bacteria in our bodies help digest nutrients, absorb them appropriately, fight against infections, flus, and carcinogens.

How does your body do all that? You got it – through food! What you consume in solids and liquid directly affect the environment of your gut. You may have heard of probiotics and prebiotics. Essentially, they are responsible for having good gut flora in your body. You can find probiotics in fermented foods, certain fruits and vegetables, in grains. They can also be found in the form of pills, power and liquid.

Your doctor is encouraging you to eat such foods to avoid an overgrowth of candida in your body. Candida overgrowth can be seen as vaginal yeast infection, oral thrush, or other fungal infections in the body. By keeping the good gut bacteria in check, you will prevent yourself from falling to the pesky yeast takeover.

4. Why do I have insomnia even though I am healthy?

Poor sleep can have many different causes. Often, it can be a result of stress of some sort which leads people to eating too late, going to bed too late, getting little to no exercise, increasing alcohol consumption (wine is notorious for causing sleep problems), poor diets, emotional stress, etc. While candida can cause insomnia, it is more likely that some kind of stress causes a digestive issue – making the person more vulnerable to any kind of infection – including Candida.

Consider getting a comprehensive stool testing to see if candida is the true culprit behind your insomnia. If it turns out that candida is why you have been having trouble falling asleep, try the Candida Cleanse to see if it helps with restoring your sleeping patterns back to regular hours. Having a healthy gut can do wonders to one’s mental state. In the meantime, Eric Bakker suggests trying 400mg magnesium glycinate before bedtime to help with getting sleep.

If, after a stool test, candida turns out NOT to be the reason behind your insomnia, try out some natural ways of helping your brain to relax and eventually helping you to sleep. This could include incorporating yoga and meditation to your weekly routine, eating clean and trying to deal with stress effectively. Other things that may help is avoiding any sort of over stimulation right before your bedtime. This includes not consuming any drinks with caffeine in it, MSG in food, turning off all technology at least 30 minutes before your bedtime. Not getting your regular sleep can, however, leave you body vulnerable and more prone to infections and other diseases. During your sleep is when your body is recharging and fighting off infections to restore back to its healthy place.

Here is a video by Eric Bakker about insomnia and its link to candida: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fflZ03EppOw. If you have candida, you can recover from it by tackling sleep issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1Nw0zDW374

Frequently Asked Questions #1

1. Why do I always feel like I am drunk or have a hangover?

The reason for why you are exhibiting signs of being drunk (dizziness, foggy brain, slow motor reaction) or like you may have a hangover (feeling lethargic, headache, sore body) could be a sign of candida overgrowth. You may be wondering how is that possible – how can a candida overgrowth possibly make you feel drunk?

In the absence of oxygen in order to get its energy, candida can use glucose when there is lack of oxygen to get its energy. This fermentation happens in the gut when there is not much oxygen where candida converts glucose to alcohol. Candida gets its glucose from carb intake. A diet rich in carbs can cause the fermentation to occur with the glucose in your body.

When yeast grow in absence of oxygen, it can start producing some amounts of alcohol. In some cases, this amount can be greater and therefore cause a feeling of being drunk. The person in question may feel symptoms such as dizziness, brain fog and other issues related with alcohol.

If you are unsure that you may have candida and want to, you can take the following Candida quiz: https://www.yeastinfection.org/yeast-infection-evaluation-test/ This comprehensive quiz can determine if you have a candida overgrowth based on the answers you will provide.

2. I have chronic diarrhea. My doctors have found no reason for it. What can it be?

When you have candida, you can have chronic diarrhea. How you wonder?

In a study conducted by Levine et al, they showed that there was a strong co-relation between symptoms of diarrhea in patients with a significant overgrowth of candida. These patients also responded to the topical antifungal agent treatments for the treatment of their cause. However, the classic candida symptoms do not crop up when you have diarrhea (fever, nausea, mucus, blood in stool). Patients mostly feel pain and cramping in the abdominal area.

The study mentions a literature review where patients with signs of diarrhea has candida growth in their stools when tested. One reason for diarrhea related to candida could be that the levels of healthy bacteria in the gut are insufficient, then causing a candida overgrowth in its absence.

To fight candida induced diarrhea, cut off the sugar and carbs. Candida thrives on sugar. Add anti-fungal food in your diet that fight candida. The two best are garlic and coconut oil. Stock up on those probiotics and stay away from antibiotics.

Watch the following video by Dr. Bakker who explains in his words how candida can cause diarrhea in those who have it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1waeqsTLUNg

You can read more here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8645834

3. My baby’s diaper rash is not going away after using all over the counter medications. Why is that?

It is a myth that babies don’t get a yeast infection. In fact, it is common for babies to have a candida overgrowth. To find out if your baby has a candida overgrowth, check their tongue and mouth for white spots – this is called oral thrush. It looks the same in babies as it does in adults. Alternatively, a candida overgrowth in babies can also manifest itself through a diaper rash. If your baby has had a diaper rash that is not going away through the application of regular over the counter ointments, then she or he most likely has a yeast infection diaper rash. Things to look out for: raised sore spots, concentrated mostly around the bum area, unresponsive to regular diaper rash medications, still there after 3 or 4 days.

Natural treatments like gentian violet and grapefruit seed extract can work wonders in helping fight the yeast infection. These are very potent liquids; therefore, they must be made soluble so that they can be used topically or orally. Coconut oil is a great natural ointment for diaper rashes with yeast infection as well. They contain anti-microbial properties that are proven to kill yeasts.

For more information on fighting diaper rashes, watch Dr. Bakker’s video where he gives other tips to help parents overcome yeast infection in babies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCQxPLacBx8

4. Why do I have extremely low libido even though I feel fine otherwise?

The reason behind your low libido can be candida. An overgrowth of candida causes a yeast infection in the vaginal area of a women, while for men it appears on their penis. Men can contract yeast infection after an unprotected sexual encounter with a woman who has yeast infection. Candida causes dryness and itchiness which can lead to very painful sexual intercourse.

An overgrowth of candida in the body causes tiredness, drowsiness, etc. In addition, when candida is concentrated on the intimate areas of a person, it has the power to diminish and decrease a person’s libido. When candida affects the inner organs of the body such as the stomach, intestines, genital areas, etc), it can make its way to the blood vessels where it circulates freely within any part of the infected body. This infection can also effect sex hormones causing a dip in the persons’ desires for sexual intercourse. However, candida does not cause numbness in the vagina. Watch this video to learn more about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n87kLPExKdY

To fix the overgrowth of candida and to get back your sex life on track, you can do a candida cleanse. Make sure your partner who has the yeast infection is taking proper measures to deal with their candida. Use protection to prevent the passing of the infection to your partner. Furthermore, if you have a very strong case of candida, you can also check out Dr. Bakker’s natural medication Canxida which can help with keeping your candida infection in check: https://www.canxida.com/

In this video, Dr. Bakker talks about how one can go about doing a candida cleanse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwUBdS-dPZM

5. I have been depressed despite being on medications. Can I do anything else about it?

Of course, candida can cause depression. To have a good mood, your digestive system must be in good balance. Research now demonstrates the link between good mood and the gut’s condition. Many of our hormones are made in the intestines. Up to 65% of dopamine, the feel-good hormone, is made in the small intestines. Similarly, another positive hormone, serotonin, is also primarily made in the guts.

Dr. Orian Truss was one of the first psychiatrists to find a connection between the brain and the gut. This is particularly true for people who have weak immune systems. If you have an onset of chronic depression, without any major trauma in the past, ask yourself the following question: could this be related to an overgrowth of candida or is there another reason for it? In doing so, you may save yourself a ton wroth of money on therapy and medication. If you are unsure as to whether you have candida or not, you can find out by taking the following comprehensive quiz created by Eric Bakker, naturopath and expert in all issues candida: https://www.yeastinfection.org/yeast-infection-evaluation-test/
