Why Zinc Is Good For Your Immune System

Zinc is one of the most important minerals you can take, especially now with this Coronavirus hitting everywhere. Zinc really helps in many aspects of your immune function. It tends to really push up the production of cytokines or basically chemical messages that help to really fight and attack and get rid of invaders coming into the body. It has a tremendously potent effect also on gene expression, so it really improves how cells basically split. Growth: the very growth of a human being is dependent on good zinc levels. The very growth and production of so many systems in the body is dependent on zinc. I could probably spend three hours talking about zinc. There is so much information online you can read about. People with considerably a good zinc levels tend to also be happier people. Zinc has a big effect also on the mood of a person, on their behavior, but growth is one of the big ones and especially the immune function.

We will find zinc to be in many skincare products because it’s brilliant for keeping also the sun, one of the ultraviolet spectrums, from damaging our skin. I mean, I can’t speak highly enough of zinc.

Zinc is also incredibly important for reproduction. A guy’s highest zinc load will be within ejaculation. He’s going to lose more zinc there than a woman would lose in several weeks of just normal living so many men are zinc deficient. In fact, the studies I read showed over two billion people as zinc deficient globally, resulting in incredible amount of sickness and disease worldwide. In bigger countries like United States, zinc deficiency is not so common, but many men still lack sufficient zinc.

I’ve just noticed this with zinc taste testing. Get yourself down to a pharmacy like a chemist and ask if they can do a zinc taste test for you. You might be quite surprised to see that you are deficient like so many people are. One of the studies I read, they basically said that zinc deficiencies are only really discovered in the early to mid sixties in the Middle East when they found so many young people dying in their twenties. When they did some studies on these young people, they found they were zinc deficient. It was really terrible. We document a decreased serum testosterone levels, almost nonexistent sperm counts in these guys, severe immune dysfunctions, mainly affecting T-helper cells, high ammonia levels in the blood, neurosensory disorders, decreased lean body mass. It appears that zinc deficiency is prevalent in the developing world and as many as two billion subjects may be growth-retarded due to zinc deficiency. Besides growth retardation and immune dysfunction, cognitive impairment due to zinc deficiency has been reported. You really need zinc to keep your health in top shape.

Multivitamins will contain zinc. Even if you just take, say, five or ten milligrams per day, you’re going to be well ahead of the ballpark. The product I developed, Kenzie the Rebuild, has five milligrams of zinc. That’s per day per tablet. If you take two tablets or three tablets per day, you’re going to get a reasonably good amount of zinc in your body just to make sure, particularly, in these times that you have got sufficient zinc in your body because it’s one of the main minerals that helps to drive your immune system up to a good level so you can help to fight bacteria and particularly viruses.

Belching And Candida

I’m the naturopath from New Zealand, but we’re going to talk about belching today. We’ve all… We’ve all done that haven’t we? Preferably not in front of a lot of other people, but belching is not a really nice thing to do. In some countries it’s considered quite okay, apparently. But, belching and candida, let’s talk about that. We know with candida, it can affect the body in many different ways. One of the key things we see with yeast is fermentation. We see yeast consuming different types of foods, in particular sugars and there’s a process for that. They’ll ferment, they’ll create gas, gases will be coming off this process, and that can easily create burping. I’ve seen many people over the year complain about excessive gas and belching through having a yeast problem.

It’s more common though to have flatulence, but it’s surprising how many people burp, and in spite of having a stomach which is free from H pyloris and no stomach infection, I’ve seen people overcome belching when the candida was clear. So if you do suffer from lots of belching and you can’t work out what the hell’s going on, first thing you want to do is test for hyperchlorhydria, or low functioning stomach acid. That’s the first thing I recommend you do. Take some digestive enzymes. Check out the product I made called CanXida Restore, comes in a green… Bottle with a green label. CanXida Restore is very, very good for belching because it contains seven different enzymes, which really help to break the foods down properly. Then it’s also got six probiotics in it, which help to feed those bacteria further down in the gut. CanXida Restore has helped hundreds of people stopping burping and farting quite a lot.

But if you can’t get a handle on this sort of constant belching, go and see a doctor. Ask for a test. Helicobacter pylori or H/P. H pylori. P-Y-L-O-R-I. It’s a bacterial… little bacteria that’s not that uncommon in the stomach. So that could well be it. And if it’s not that, it comes back negative, request a stool test. Then have a look further afield what’s in the small bowel and the large bowel. Because usually there’s something there, some type of overgrowth, and if you conquer that, belching is gone, unless you’re eating the wrong kind of food. That could be also, eating too fast, not chewing properly, the selection of wrong kind of foods. These all contribute to belching.

Is Joint Pain Linked To Poor Gut Function Can I Eliminate Joint Pain By Improving My Gut

A question I get asked quite regularly, particularly when I was practicing, is I’ve got joint pain. I’ve got pain in my joints and in my hips or in my lumbar spine, or it could be in my knees, it could be in my finger joints. Can this be ameliorated or remedied by diet? If I change what I’m eating, is there any link between this pain in my gut function?

Well if you think about it, we’ve often spoken about the fact that the majority of your immune system resides in your digestive tract, particularly the small intestine. There’s a large chunk of it in there, and this is often where inflammation starts, especially things that we’ve discussed in previous videos like lipopolysaccharides, LPS, or small fragments from bacterial walls that end up leaking through or causing havoc with the immune system. And these upregulate in pain, inflammation, so you’re going to get a cycle going.

Many experts now believe that lots of inflammation in general, especially as you get older, my age plus in particular will push you into chronic health, chronic disease, like cancer or diabetes or heart disease or things like this. So by keeping your gut in good shape, especially by eating the right kind of foods and understanding the connection with lifestyle and gut, by really getting that working well, you can reduce your chances of inflammatory disorders.

So how do you know you’ve got inflammation? Well pain, like pain in the hands or just pain in fingers or wrists regularly. Could the pain in the elbow, just regular pain, small amounts of pain, small bouts of pain. Then this pain can go on sometimes for days. It can disappear. You may get those pains in different parts of the musculoskeletal system.

So is there a link? Well, here’s the interesting thing. I totally believe there’s a link between the gut and most inflammation throughout the body. Personal experience also from reading thousands of stool tests, looking at reports of patients, talking to them about their problems, and seeing the connection with Klebsiella, the Citrobacter, the bacteria, like for example, high counts in the stool, and then very painful fingers or very painful wrists or very painful hips.

It’s known now, it’s actually a known fact that people with rheumatoid arthritis have got Klebsiella in their gut, and the Klebsiella contributes to the inflammatory component of the autoimmune disease. Most people know that now. I mean, I knew that 20 years ago. I didn’t know it was Klebsiella, but I had a gut feeling for want of a better word, that bacteria are involved in a lot of these autoimmune inflammatory diseases.

So remember, there are two types of inflammation you can get in the joints. You can get wear and tear, the osteoarthritis, or you can get the autoimmune, which is more the … They both have inflammatory components, both those types of arthritis, except one is autoimmune, one’s non-autoimmune. But you can also have pain in the joints that’s not osteoarthritis, that’s not rheumatoid arthritis, that’s still pain, and I still believe that there are conditions like it throughout the body where you get little bits of pain, but if the gut’s in great shape and you’ve got the gut restored in good condition, those pains go away.

Check it out. Get a stool test done. If you’ve got pain in there in your body, now get a test done and have a look. You might be quite surprised. You set your house in order and it starts coming right. Thanks for tuning in.

The Link Between Candida And Disease

Does Candida cause disease, or do diseases cause Candida? Well, in fact, it can happen both ways.

One in four people has Candida in their body. When they are well, Candida is asymptomatic – meaning it doesn’t cause any symptoms. But then something happens to the person – it could be antibiotics, it could be a lifestyle or diet change, or a crisis. Their immune system takes a hit creating a vulnerability that allows Candida to overgrow. That’s what generally happens to trigger a Candida problem.

Of course, some people were never colonized with Candida. They get very sick, and Candida becomes an opportunistic infection. For example, diabetes and conditions that suppress the immune system can leave people quite vulnerable to Candida. It can happen in hospital settings, just like bacterial infections such as MRSA. Candida is simply waiting for an opportunity to infiltrate the body.

If you’re healthy, you’re in a good place because you’re not vulnerable to opportunistic infections.

I often compare my clients to plants growing in the garden. If you grow something in good soil with proper nutrition and water, everything is facilitating healthy plants. It’s similar for humans. If we look after our digestion, our diet, our lifestyle, and our stress levels, we are building a powerful body that can resist Candida.

Your diet and lifestyle choices will determine whether you’re in good health or poor health. Your health then influences your risk of developing a Candida infection. If you look after your health, the Candida will remain absent or in very small numbers.

If you don’t take care of your health, you could get an explosion of fungal overgrowth and require treatment.

Ten Foods That Help Make Your Gut Healthy

If you can incorporate these 10 foods into your diet, it should help you significantly with symptoms like gas, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea.

1. Jerusalem artichoke:

Jerusalem artichokes are sweet-tasting tubers from the sunflower family. You can roast, fried, or grate Jerusalem artichokes.

Jerusalem artichokes contain a lot of inulin, a type of prebiotic sugar.

The prebiotics in Jerusalem artichokes will travel right through to the colon and feed the beneficial bacteria. Some clients with low levels of lactobacillus and bifidobacteria experience big increases after eating Jerusalem artichoke for several months.

You only need one or two small pieces of Jerusalem artichoke per day to increase the beneficial bacteria. If you’ve got a very sensitive digestive tract, don’t go crazy on Jerusalem artichokes because you could end up with a very upset stomach.

2. Bananas:

Be careful with bananas on the Candida diet. Plantain bananas (sometimes also called green bananas) are okay if you have Candida, particularly if they’re cooked in coconut milk, which adds even more antifungal capacity.

There are a lot of compounds in bananas that build good health and reduce inflammation. Bananas contain prebiotics that help increase beneficial bacteria.

Make sure you eat bananas when they are not to brown and not too green. A banana a day is a fantastic way to build excellent colonic health.

3. Garlic

Garlic is both a prebiotic and an antimicrobial. Garlic helps to clean up unwanted bacteria and yeast in the gut. Garlic also helps boost beneficial bacteria.

A 2013 study published in Food Science and Human Wellness found that garlic boosted the creation of many good gut microbes. Research shows that garlic prevents many gastrointestinal diseases.

Garlic is good, but make sure you purchase garlic that’s organic and locally grown. Don’t buy garlic imported from Asia where’s it’s been irradiated and potentially contains heavy metals.

4. Butter

Butter may seem like an unlikely candidate in this list of healthy foods, but butter contains some excellent fats. The good lipids in butter can help establish good hormonal health. Butter contains butyric acid, a fatty acid that contributes to colonic health. Clarified butter, or Ghee, is even healthier than regular butter. Ghee has been linked to reduced inflammation.

Make sure the butter you eat is organic and from grass-fed cows.

5. Cruciferous vegetables

Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and kale contain glucosinolates, a compound that helps break down toxins in the body. The sulfur-containing metabolites found in cruciferous vegetables are broken down by microbes into substances that reduce inflammation and the risk of certain cancers.

Cruciferous vegetables can also help build up the levels of beneficial bacteria like lactobacillus. I suggest having cruciferous vegetables daily.

6. Berries

Berries contain many different compounds that have positive health benefits. Some of the compounds in berries reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. Berry pigments such as anthocyanins are antioxidants. Berries have different types of fiber that have a positive effect on beneficial gut bacteria.

7. Beans

All kinds of beans can improve your gut health. The fiber in legumes helps strengthen intestinal cells and intestinal walls. Legumes can also help with constipation and bloating.

Beans encourage proper weight loss because they leave you feeling full. You get protein when you eat beans while benefiting the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Legumes contain B vitamins and folate, which play a powerful role in regulating gut function.

8. Fermented foods

I recommend eating fermented foods, particularly the plant-based ones, miso and tempeh. Tempeh is basically tofu that has inoculated with bacteria leading to fermentation.

Fermented foods are very powerful in terms of inoculating your gut with good bacteria and allowing the proliferation of beneficial bugs.

In addition to miso and tempeh, you could consider sauerkraut, kefir, yogurt, kimchi, or the Greek drink, kumis.

Be careful with fermented foods if you have a weak digestive system or are early on in recovery from a gut problem. You can end up feeling very sick if you incorporate fermented foods into your diet too quickly.

9. Seaweed

Many studies demonstrate the positive effect of seaweed on beneficial bacteria in the gut. A study of Japanese women found that high seaweed intake increases many different strains of good bacteria. Another study suggested that alginate, a substance in brown seaweed, can strengthen the gut mucous membrane, slow down digestion, and improve constipation.

Seaweeds contain an abundance of minerals and a massive amount of fiber.

10. Apples

Green apples are particularly good because they contain so many substances that build health. A 2014 study published in Food Chemistry found green apples boost good gut bacteria.

Apples also contain malic acid, which is helpful to people with fatigue. Take some magnesium supplements and have one or two green apples a day. It does wonders for energy, sleep, and metabolism. Apples are also great for weight management.

You will get a noticeable benefit from adding these 10 foods into your diet. I would call these ten foods some of the best for your gut. There are other strong contenders like avocado, but these ten still have impressive benefits.
