Putting An End To Binge Eating: 10 Steps You Can Take

Binge eating is a source of great emotional and physical distress. Luckily, there are several steps you can take to reduce this habit.

1. Stop dieting: Dieting can lead to cravings that eventually become so strong they trigger binge-eating episodes.

2. Make sure you’re eating enough fiber. Eat regular amounts of fiber throughout the day – from fruit and vegetables in particular. Fiber slows down the digestive system and signals the brain, so you don’t feel the need to eat so frequently.

3. Get enough protein in your diet. It’s easy to feel ravenous and binge-y if you’re not eating enough protein. Protein is great for generating feelings of satiety and keeping your hunger hormone in check. Just as for fiber, protein also slows down digestion, keeping you feeling full for a longer period.

4. Don’t be a lazy eater. That means you should be prepared to put effort into making and cooking your meals rather than going to a fast-food drive-through.

5. Find some engaging distractions to fill your time when you have the urge to binge. It could be walking the dog, going for a stroll, talking to your neighbor, busying your hands with knitting, or anything else that gives you some enjoyment.

6. Identify the emotional triggers that trigger binge eating. Once you know your triggers, start taking steps to change them or to find healthy ways of responding. It could be a relationship issue, a job issue, or financial stress.

7. Get your stress levels under control. Do your best to mitigate your stressors to prevent the spikes of cortisol that can drive your appetite to very high levels.

8. Eat before you are overly hungry. Eating at regular times of the day is very important. You don’t have to be excessively rigid, but skipping meals can lead to all-out binge eating. Keep an eye out for the subtle symptoms of low blood sugar and hunger. It could be that your thinking is slowing down, or you’re feeling irritable, tired, and dizzy.

9. Make sure you drink enough water between meals. Getting overly thirsty can trigger overeating for some people. Water also contributes to a feeling of satiation, so you don’t get overly hungry between scheduled meals and snacks.

10. Learn to eat slowly. Eating slower is better for your stomach. Think of your stomach as a cement mixer; you can’t fill it up all at one time. Fill your stomach up gradually, give it time to process the food you are eating.

Skinny Genes: What You Need To Know

Do skinny genes really exist, or are they a myth?

I think skinny genes exist, and so do scientists.

There have been many studies on the genetics of weight conducted over the years.

If we go back decades, there was a professor at Arizona State University who was studying genetics using Drosophila (fruit flies). This scientist found that some fruit flies were fat and some were quite lean. The fat fruit flies had a significant advantage because their extra weight could carry them through tough times. The same can be said for polar bears – they need a lot of fat to survive difficult circumstances. However, that’s not what humans living in New York City or L.A. need.

The gene that resulted in bigger fruit flies was named “adipose.” This gene has been studied in mice and rats as well. It turns out if the activity of the adipose gene is upregulated, mice live longer and burn fat faster.

In another study of close to 100,000 people, it was discovered that about 1/2000 people have a variation on chromosome 16. There is a small patch of information on this chromosome that isn’t present in the other 1999/2000 people.

This extra genetic code resulted in a lower than average appetite. These people ended up very lean and sometimes underweight to the point of concern.

You probably know a lady or a guy that can eat whatever they want, and they just don’t put on weight. That could be part of this chromosomal aberration that we’re talking about here.

In some people, it’s dangerous because no matter what they eat, they can’t gain any weight. It’s just as awful being in that situation as it is being 300 or 400 pounds.

In my opinion, genetics also influences personality. In turn, the personality will also naturally drive up or down the endocrine system. Hypothalamic, pituitary, and thyroid activity could all be a bit higher or a bit lower depending on genetics. The hormonal activity can then influence weight.

Remember, it’s not just about genetics. Your weight also reflects the food you eat, how much you move, and your lifestyle.

How CanXida Restore Can Help You Lose Weight

A 2013 study found that there is definitely a link between the microbiome and body weight. The researchers found that the larger a person was, the more disordered the bacterial content of their gut. Healthier, leaner people had a more stable microbiome than people who were obese.

It’s very, very, very important that you have a healthy microbiome. It’s more important than having a big bank account. You could have $1 billion in the bank, but if you’ve got a crappy digestive system, you’re going to suffer significantly. You can buy a lot of things, but you can’t buy a good gut.

You’ve got to develop that gut with your lifestyle and your diet. Ample studies now show that there is a link between gut flora and obesity. We can’t say it’s the cause, but we can see there’s an association between the two.

A disordered bowel with dysbiosis and obesity seem to go along with each other. Conversely, there have been many studies linking beneficial bacteria with weight loss. For example, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, one of my favorite Lactobacillus, has been linked to weight loss.

Further readings:

That’s one of the reasons why I like Lactobacillus rhamnosus; it stabilizes the gut. This particular probiotic powerfully improves the immune response in the GI tract and helps to drive down many different species of harmful bacteria and yeasts.

I included Lactobacillus rhamnosus in CanXida Restore because of the compelling evidence that it is very beneficial to gut health.

Based on the feedback I’ve received, women tend to lose a bit more weight, and to do it faster, than men. I don’t know the reason for this difference, but I’ve definitely noticed this pattern. Studies have also found a difference between men and women when it comes to the benefits of probiotics.

Maybe it’s because women take the supplements more regularly, or there may be differences in lifestyle such as alcohol consumption.

I think the probiotics can help people lose weight. But, keep in mind that there are several factors associated with going from lean to obsess. Increased caloric intake, including artificial sweeteners in the diet, and a disrupted circadian rhythm are all associated with weight gain.

A person who’s not sleeping properly, or they’re shift working, will often end up with a weight problem. If you’re overweight and you’re a shift worker, it’s probably time to get rid of that job if at all possible.

If you’re going to take a probiotic to help yourself lose weight, make sure you take it regularly. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep and cut out the junk and excessive fat from your diet. Small amounts of healthy fats are fine, but you don’t want to be filling your plate with trans fat and the like.

Lastly, you’ll get more bang from your probiotic buck if you also include sufficient prebiotics in your diet.

Finding The Right Doctor For You

Having an unsupportive doctor can cause a lot of problems. Many people I’ve followed for a prolonged period have shared with me how unhappy they are with their doctor. They could be unhappy with their naturopathic, western medicine, acupuncture, or whatever kind of doctor.

Most doctors are good people. They don’t set out to be unsupportive
Doctors are often very busy and stressed. Medicine has changed since I was a child. Sometimes it feels like a supermarket; it’s so fast-paced.

The days of a family doctor who knows many generations of a family has generally come and gone in big cities. But, you can still find lots of caring doctors.

Does your current doctor pull the wool over your eyes, bully you, or make you feel bad in any way. That is not what he or she should be doing.

I don’t like it when doctors disempower their patients. If your doctor makes you feel like a foo, incapable of making your own decisions, then you have an unsupportive doctor. You need to find a new doctor.

There are plenty of nice doctors out there, and you deserve to be heard.

You wouldn’t put up with being disrespected by an electrician or a plumber, right? Your health is well worth spending the time to find a doctor who will listen and work with you.

This is why many people come to naturopaths like me. Our profession takes the time to listen to people. We listen to things and take things seriously that often the medical profession disregard.

I don’t disregard anything a patient tells me.

Some people may exaggerate a symptom up, or they may downplay a symptom. A good practitioner needs to be a psychologist to understand human nature, to work these kinds of things out,

How much time does your doctor spend with you? Five minutes? 10 minutes? That’s not good enough. That’s only enough time to say hello and goodbye.

It’s not uncommon for a conventional doctor to see 40 or 50 patients in a day. I’ve never seen any more than seven or eight patients per day in all my career.

I prefer not to take any more than two or max three new cases per day, and the rest of the day, see followup patients.

When you leave your practitioner’s office, you should feel inspired. You should feel confident.

You should feel happy and have some type of a plan in mind on which direction you’re going

I’ve always tried to make people feel good about themselves. It’s difficult sometimes when you work with mental health patients. But that’s the thing. When you leave your doctor’s office, you should feel good.

If you leave your doctor’s office feeling bad, it’s going to undermine your health and cause you more stress.

You need to have a positive relationship with the professional that’s going to help you through your health challenges.

Don’t give up. There are plenty of excellent doctors out there.

CanXida for SIBO and SIFO

Dietary supplements can help manage small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). But, what if you also have small bowel fungal overgrowth (SIFO)? Or you’ve got a parasite there as well?

Many people I’ve seen in my clinic over the years don’t just suffer from one particular GI problem; they suffer from multiple GI problems.

Often, they will have lack of sufficient hydrochloric acid in the stomach, they’ll have some type of pancreatic disfunction, SIBO, they’ll have bacterial overgrowth in the large bowel, and they’ll have a yeast infection,
either in the small and large or both.

CanXida Remove is a supplement that I formulated several years ago now, primarily to clean up the digestive system.

In my clinical experience, people often have multiple species of undesirable bacteria in their gut.

When I say undesirable, these are bacteria that occur in your gut by default, but they’ve become undesirable because their populations have increased.

Why have they increased? They’ve grown because of an imbalance often precipitated by medication, such as antibiotics or stomach acid blockers.

If you’re taking a drug recurringly for a GI problem, there’s a chance that you could develop SIBO as a result.

There are eleven different ingredients in CanXida Remove. It’s an amazing product for SIBO that reduces the symptoms.

CanXida Remove contains antifungals, antiparasitics, and antibacterials. One of the most potent ingredients in CanXida Remove is standardized grapefruit seed extract (GSE). The GSE that I selected for CanXida Remove has a very high flavonoid content. The GSE is powerful but not overpowering.

Garlic and oregano are also included in CanXida Remove. The oregano is a standardized oregano extract with a high carvacrol content. The standardized garlic has a high allicin content.

CanXida Remove addresses bacteria like Klebsiella, Citrobacter, Pseudomonas, and many other species.

I generally recommend taking two to three tablets of Remove per day.
If you have very severe SIBO, you may be better off starting with just one tablet per day. You can slowly build up to two or three tablets per day. If you get any side effects from CanXida Remove, cut the dose back.

Related articles:

We have seen a significant reduction in SIBO bacteria as a result of using CanXida Remove.

It’s important that you also eat right when trying to get rid of SIBO. Eat a clean, healthy diet such as the MEVY (meat, eggs, vegetables, and yogurt diet).

Also, pay attention to your lifestyle. I consider stress and lifestyle as major factors in SIBO.

Once you have your lifestyle and diet on track, all you need is a supplement that is going to clean up the gut. That supplement can certainly be CanXida Remove.

CanXida Remove works better if you take CanXida Restore as well.

Restore was designed for people with poor digestive health. It was developed for people with gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort, constipation, and diarrhea.

Restore contains several different special digestive enzymes which assist the stomach overcome that problem of that low stomach acidity.

One of the big problems caued by SIBO is lack of fat-soluble vitamins: vitamins A, D, E, and K. SIBO can also interfere with calcium, magnesium, B12, and iron absorption.

If your blood tests show that you are deficient in vitamins or minerals, heck out CanXida Rebuild. Rebuild was the last product I designed.

CanXida Rebuild contains the nutrients your body may be lacking due to SIBO.

But, even before you start taking CanXida products for a gut problem, get a baseline comprehensive stool analysis. Make sure you are off al supplements for several days before having a stool test.

Repeat the stool test, two to three months after you have corrected your diet, improved your lifestyle, and started the CanXida products.
