Candida Case Studies: Meet Susan

Susan, age 39, is an Australian lady who visited my practice several years ago complaining of a number of chronic health problems that had plagued her for over twenty years. Can you imagine suffering for two decades without relief? Many of Susan’s health issues are typical of some of the clinical complaints people have when they endure a chronic generalized yeast infection.

Susan suffered from sinus and hay fever all her life and had taken many different drugs for her allergies. She had to keep changing them because they were only offering temporary relief. She had learned to live with a stuffy or perpetually blocked nostril, post nasal drip, sneezing, itchy upper palate, sore throats, and even dark circles under her eyes. She also suffered from the worst headaches imaginable since she was sixteen, at times like a nail piercing her skull, as she described them. These headaches were typically much worse about four days before her menstrual cycle.

Susan went to her doctor about five years ago, complaining of the headache. He referred her to a neurologist who concluded after an ECG (brain wave scan) that all was well and that the headaches were caused by stress and tension. They told her to take analgesics as required. Several hundred dollars later, and none the wiser, Susan started to take paracetamol (acetaminophen) several times a day with only a temporary relief.

When Susan was in her late twenties she started to become more aware of the fluid retention she was suffering from, including a huge weight gain since her teens (over 150 pounds). After she ate a carbohydrate rich meal she would bloat considerably and retain as much as eight pounds of fluid or more at times (four kilograms). Her doctor told her it was because of salt, so Susan excluded all salt from her diet as much as possible, only to find out that salt reduction made absolutely no difference to her fluid retention.

What she did notice was how much worse her fluid retention was before her period, and it coincided with feeling very emotional and depressed. Maybe there was a link, Susan thought?

Thankfully, Susan found her way into my office. After listening to her story and completing a full case history, Susan was placed on the Candida Crusher Program. She, like many others, took it slowly at first, but after five months the results were staggering. According to Susan, she felt “normal” for the first time in her life.

Candida Case Studies: Meet Trudy

Yeast infections are so prevalent because they are oven just plain over looked. The following story is typical in my office. If you are a health professional, you will most probably think of a few cases you may have right now which resemble Trudy. Trudy, age 62, came to see me several years ago complaining of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). She had ongoing constipation and diarrhea for over ten years. “Far too many years to recollect,” she informed me.

Trudy has been treated as an IBS patient by every practitioner she has seen, and was never considered to be a person who may have a serious yeast infection. Because she told them all that IBS is what a medical doctor had diagnosed her with several years ago, none of the practitioners she saw considered other options. Natural medicine practitioners had placed her on strict exclusion diets and the allergy diets, to no avail. Her doctor had treated her several times with antibiotics before he washed his hands of her and placed her in the “too hard” basket.

Related articles:

The bowel specialist concluded that there was nothing the matter with Trudy after all the standard investigations like a colonoscopy, endoscopy, abdominal x-rays, and the many blood tests. I have heard this one hundred times before. Whenever I teach students about digestive problems, I say, “If the health professionals diagnose IBS or can’t find a
reason for the patient’s digestive dysfunction, suspect a yeast infection.”

Trudy mentioned that she had an itchy scalp and on close inspection I noticed that both her big toenails were thickened and discoloured. We completed a stool analysis and there it was – yeast in all three stool samples. But not only yeast, she also had several other bad bacteria and parasites present which is typical of a chronic ongoing digestive case like this.

The opportunity exists for such a proliferation of dysbiosis; hence the term opportunistic infection is generally used. Trudy had a stool test completed years ago but was only tested for the basic pathogens like giardia, campylobacter, cryptosporidium and rotavirus, because she used to work at a children’s day care centre on occasion. All results were negative, as usual, and Trudy was left with no answers. It took almost six months to get Trudy in fine form.

One of my biggest disgusts with conventional treatment of digestive complaints is the routine and overzealous prescribing of antibiotics by the doctors. I have seen hundreds of candida patients over the years that have never been well since a round of antibiotics that was prescribed to them many years ago. Trudy was just another case. She had developed sore throats and chesty coughs in her late forties and was prescribed penicillin at least three to four times a year for a few years. She then developed the digestive problems that were again treated with yet more antibiotics.

Thankfully, Trudy kept searching for answers and finally stumbled on the right one. As long as the doctors keep on prescribing these antibiotics, naturopaths will remain in business trying to help the patient recover from a yeast infection.

Candida Case Studies: Meet Kirsty

Kirsty is a young female student, age 19, who came to our clinic about two years ago complaining of chronic fatigue. She was absolutely exhausted and found it hard to concentrate at university. Kirsty was falling asleep during her afternoon lectures and was becoming increasing anxious at her inability to concentrate. Her main complaints were foggy thinking, anxiety and depression, occasional thrush, intermittent pains in her tummy, nausea, and small whitish spots on her body.

Her mother had been a patient of our practice for some time and referred Kirsty to me. When I questioned her about her daughter’s diet and lifestyle, she said that she was tired of receiving phone calls from her daughter several times a week complaining about her health. One of the most notable points was that she told me Kirsty liked to have a drink on Friday and Saturday nights, which was of concern to her.

Related articles:

I have occasionally found it invaluable before the consultation to (discretely) make enquiries about a patient through their relatives, especially regarding younger patients and alcohol. You can learn a lot about the patient’s case history this way, and may miss something the patient may be not willing to tell you – the practitioner.

Kirsty finally came to my clinic and showed me her arms. I immediately identified a fungal skin complaint I have commonly seen on the arms, legs and torso of many chronic candida patients over the years.

I knew this was another chronic candida sufferer. Her doctor ran all the tests and found nothing wrong, including a skin scraping which was sent to the pathology lab and later deemed “inconclusive.” I have even seen similar skin rashes diagnosed by some doctors as psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo, when in fact it was a fungal skin rash.
How can I be so sure? My experience after carefully noting hundreds of cases is that skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and vitiligo may temporarily improve but do not disappear when you don’t treat for candida.

Kirsty loved white wine, but also bread and two-minute noodles. We had several consultations, and I had to really convince her that alcohol just had to go. She was so sick and tired of feeling sick and tired that in the end she complied. This was Kirsty’s tipping point, but Kirsty’s case proved to be quite difficult indeed and took almost one year to come right.

The problem here was that Kirsty is an extreme person, and after I told her to go “real easy” with treatment initially, she disregarded my advice and tripled the dosage of all the supplements as well as going rather extreme with the diet. She avoided just about everything except for meat proteins, green leafy vegetables and brown rice. The result? She felt totally awesome for the first seven days, but then felt absolutely terrible. This is due to the Herxheimer reaction, which I’ll discuss later on.

Related articles:

The good news is that Kirsty did recover – and you can, too. My point today is two-fold. Kirsty’s case shows us that a) it’s not good to be too extreme with your treatment plan and b) alcohol is a huge contributing factor that absolutely has to go. Trust me on this one.

“Thank you for helping me to solve your digestive problems”

Hi Eric, Matt here, I can not thank you enough for helping me solve my digestion problems. I have had just over two weeks avoiding the foods I am not supposed to have and have started your Candida Crusher program and I feel great to say the least. My stomach no longer hurts, I have energy again and my mental health almost instantly switched back to normal and I have not suffered any depression since. I would like to organize a time to call you for a phone consult to make sure I am giving my body everything it needs and I would also like to discuss the bowel as I still have some bloating and still not forming solid stool.

“Terrible Stomach Pains – All Gone”

Dear Dr. Bakker,
I visited your clinic in 2007 on a holiday to see my sister in your area with terrible stomach pains and very itchy skin. I craved sweet foods and as a chef found it really hard to stop eating sweet deserts. My health had been terrible for a quit a a few years, and all the doctors could do was keep on giving me antibiotics. Your Candida Crusher program was a true godsend and helped me within two weeks! I have now been free of digestive pains and have felt the best I have in many years, thank you so much for all your professional help and personal engagement, I really appreciate it.

“I’ve not only got rid of my yeast infection, I’ve lost 16 pounds!”

Hello Eric,
I am Karen aged 45, and yes, you can use my “story”, I hope it helps other people just like me out there overcome their yeast problems. I had been battling a candida infection for the past eight years at least. I came across your name and your candida program through my friend but had doubts as to whether you could help me, I honestly had tried just about every pill, product and treatment under the sun! But I’m glad I did, or I would have never gotten rid of this crippling condition. It took about four weeks to notice improvements and I must say I never experienced results like this with any other treatment or pill I tried. I can now save money on treatments and no more doctor visits or drugs like (which made me feel sick) or those messy creams I kept using with little results.
BTW – I’ve not only lost my yeast infection, I’ve also lost nearly eight kilos (16 pounds) in weight! 🙂

Thanks and God Bless!

Karen Caruso, 45yrs, Brisbane, Australia

“I now recommend your wonderful Candida Crusher program to everybody”

Hi Eric,
I want to personally thank you for the work you are doing by educating and helping people like me. For the last 5 months I have been following your Candida Crusher diet and lifestyle program and especially the stress recommendations. It took a good two months to really notice the results. My aches (including headaches) I used to experience in my neck and back have all but gone and so has the annoying rash in my groin region that I used to have. But the best thing of all is that my bloated belly and gas (which is still there but a fraction of what it used to be like) is all but gone!

I now recommend your wonderful Candida Crusher program to everybody who complains of digestive problems especially, regardless of their type of digestive complaint. I once had no faith whatsoever in your type of medicine but can honestly say that your treatment worked for me and I know it can help others out there who have problems like I had. I live in England and next time I come to New Zealand want to come and visit you for a personal consultation, my daughter (who sent me a link to your yeast infection website) now lives in Auckland.
Thank you for the time you spent with me over the past several months.

Jack Allen, 62yrs, Orpington, London

Athlete’s Foot – Cured

Hi Eric,
I just wanted to share with you how happy I am to finally be able to see healthy toenails after more than 30 years of awful, terrible athlete’s feet and discoloured and terrible misshapen toenails. You did promise me that in time my toenails would grow out to be normal again, but I never ever believed that it would really happen! But the interesting this is that we didn’t really treat my feet, but my digestion which I cannot get over. My allergies have disappeared and my digestion is back to normal, all in the span of 6 months, I still can’t believe it, I am absolutely thrilled!!
I wish you all the best with your candida book, your advice and information was certainly worth it for me. I just wish I could have gotten a copy, but you mentioned that you were almost finished writing it.
Here is a picture of my foot for proof, thank you so much again for all your help. I am really happy!
Sheryl Livingstone, 48yrs, Sydney, Australia

Eric’s comment – you can see the clear difference – healthy nail growing out beneath the fungal nail. Look at the big toe!

Hi Eric,

Thank you for helping me with a problem which has been causing me grief for many years – my toenails. Ever since I can remember I have had awfully smelly toes. I have tried every lotion and potion I could find and thanks to your Candida Crusher program can now say that I can finally believe that soon I will be free from athlete’s foot. Look at the improvement! You asked me for a photo so here it is. I can recommend your services to anyone who has tried everything else. And Eric, don’t hesitate to catch up with me when you come to Brisbane next.

Wendy – Yeast Infection Case Study

Wendy is a 77 year old female who has suffered from a skin rash for over 30 years. This lady came to my clinic a few days ago presenting with a rather nasty case of candida yeast infection. look at the images and note the red skin under the armpit, the breasts and around the folds of her abdomen. She was offered many different treatment options including steroid creams, anti-fungal creams and many different lotions and potions by various natural health-care practitioners. All to no avail, the condition just kept on coming back, time and again.

Wendy The Chocolate Lover

Mary has a dark secret, in fact she loves dark chocolate. I was amazed how all the health-care professionals she consulted didn’t seem to place that much emphasis (if any) on her chocolate habit. She also confessed to loving biscuits and sweet cakes as well and had noticed that her habit had increased substantially over the past few years. Wendy is 77 years of age and had driven for over four hours to consult with me, so she really was serious about getting rid of her yeast infection.

I have found that the best way to tackle these types of problems is in stages, that is, there is no point in making a complete change in terms of diet and lifestyle, it just doesn’t work. In my upcoming book entitled Candida Crusher, I explain a lot more about slowly bringing change about in a chronic case like Mary’s, and how to finally get rid of these bothersome and annoying skin complaints which seem “incurable”. There are no such complaints as “incurable” in my books, but there seem to be a few patients who are definitely resistant to change!

Here you can see the fungal infection situated in the folds of Wendy’s abdomen. This has been driving her crazy for years due to the incessant itching. There are several simple solutions here, and these chronic conditions are best tackled by way of a diet change and a lifestyle change. The first thing we had to do was to reduce (and not eliminate) Wendy’s chocolate habit. Notice how I said “reduce and not eliminate”. There is no point eliminating a habit which has accumulated for many years, it is best done gradually and in stages. Do you have a major full blown yeast infection? Are you addicted to a sweet food or a drink? Think carefully, because Wendy did not consider her regular (daily) habit of enjoying sweet foods like cakes, cookies and chocolate as being of any real concern. And neither did the countless practitioners, physicians and holistic healers she had consulted over the past 30 years.

Wendy’s armpit was very red, and both of her armpits have the same red itchy rash. Do you have a rash similar to this one? You may well have a yeast infection. Wendy had been using an anti-perspirant containing aluminium which was rolled on under her arms each morning after the shower. I discouraged her and mentioned about the toxicity of aluminium. She now uses an “eco-friendly” alternative. I will be working with Wendy over the next several months and hope to have more photos to share with you in the future as we make progress with this chronic case of candida yeast infection.

It’s Going To Take Time

Wendy told me that she is well and truly “over” her skin complaint and is now ready to be compliant. We will see! It takes time to break lifestyle and dietary habits which have formed over the ensuing decades, I don’t expect any miracles here. I generally find that patients comply in proportion to the level of discomfort they are experiencing.
