1. By allowing air to circulate you are making the environment more hostile to yeasts. Wear loose fitting clothing wherever possible. This includes tight, heavy trousers and, more importantly, nylon underwear. Nylon doesn’t allow the body to breathe in the same way that cotton does. So exchange the nylon for cotton and the trousers for skirts whenever you can.

2. A steaming hot bath or jacuzzi might seem the ideal way to relax but the heat can encourage yeast overgrowth, and, in women who already have it, make the region extremely irritated. Take warm baths over hot ones and, whenever you can, shower!

3. If you need to wear trousers in the daytime consider having a shower in the evening after work. This way you can change into less formal garments and shift straight into a dress or skirt with no hose after bathing. The same rule applies after swimming. Change into something light and made of a natural material so the air can circulate between your legs.

4. Avoiding alcohol together with sweet desserts and candies is a must if you want to send that infection on its way. Alcohol is known to exist in many people with microflora dysbiosis and Candida just simply thrive on the sugary goodies. Remember that it won’t be for ever and, after your yeast infection has gone, most people often find that they crave candy a lot less than they did before anyway.

8. Avoid becoming overheated. Whether you are having a day on the beach or when you are playing sports, consider just how overheated your body is becoming. Remember to shower, dry yourself carefully and to dress yourself in loose fitting clothing to allow yourself to cool off. It should go without saying to avoid saunas. That amount of heat, together with the moisture provides an ideal breeding ground for Candida.

9. When sitting, and particularly for long periods, try not to cross your legs. Letting the air circulate even when you are doing nothing is very important. You have no need to sit like a jock but can retain femininity by crossing your legs at the ankles – which is considered very elegant in some circles!

What’s the Connection between Candida and Gluten Allergies?

Some experts believe that there is a direct link between a yeast infection and a gluten allergy, and I believe there is after having noticed how many patients I’ve seen who were diagnosed as being gluten sensitive or celiac, who could once again eat wheat and gluten products without any aggravations after having followed the Candida Crusher Program.

There is a protein within the cell wall of candida albicans (Hwp-1, also known as Hyphal Wall Protein-1) that allows candida to attach itself to the cells of the intestine. The body’s immune system does not recognize Hwp-1 as being that much different from the intestinal cells, allowing candida to remain in our digestive system. The configurations of the amino acids that make up Hwp-1 protein are very similar to the proteins α-gliadin and γ-gliadin found in gluten (wheat, barley, rye) products. Over time, the yeast cells begin to change and are not as fixed as the gliadin proteins, they die, their colonies expand and they hyphenate, sending out spores.

The immune system becomes challenged and mounts a response that not only includes an attack on the Hwp-1 protein, but also on the similar gliadin protein as well. Crossover allergic reactions begin to occur as the immune system becomes confused, and as the immune system becomes increasingly sensitized to the effects of gluten, leading to celiac disease being triggered in susceptible people.

Because the immune system is confused and cannot readily distinguish between the Hwp-1 proteins and specific gluten proteins, it can lead to a condition known as auto-immunity. And this is how celiac disease may even be caused for all we know. Have you never wondered why perfectly healthy people all of a sudden become “gluten intolerant”? There is always a cause, but it is generally never sought for, and this has lead to a whole new industry and mindset, the gluten free movement.

In view of the Hwp-1 protein and candida connection and the development of gluten sensitivities, does this not make sense to you? Did they ever have a comprehensive stool test performed to determine what bacteria; parasites or yeasts were involved before they decided to go gluten free? But if they had tried to commit to a yeast eradication program they would probably find that they actually could go back to eating wheat products again without any aggravation.

Ulcerative colitis cases have sky rocketed, and Crohn’s disease is seven times more likely in those who are sensitive to gluten. While douching isn’t something I recommend women do on a regular basis, there are some benefits to using this technique if you have a yeast infection you need to clear up. The key is to choose the right ingredients to prepare your douche. While an apple cider vinegar douche may work well, there are a couple of others to consider.

Douching is considered by some women as not a good thing to do as it may aggravate a vaginal condition, others find that it offers no real positive effect on a chronic condition. In my experience, the feedback I’ve received from many women has been most positive, especially the protocols I mention in my book Candida Crusher. Here are some useful douches you will find can offer much benefit.

Colloidal Silver

Colloidal silver is a mixture of microscopically small pure silver particles suspended in water. When applied topically to the vaginal area, colloidal silver when diluted in water can provide immediate relief as it has a marked anti-fungal action. The usual dosage is to mix ½ – 1 teaspoon of colloidal silver with a glass of tepid pure water (250ml) and use the mixture to douche the vaginal area. Colloidal silver works well when used in this way, or when added to apple cider vinegar as a wash.

A stronger concentration can be used after several hours if you feel no change or im­provement. Silver is a powerfully effective anti-microbial that is able to destroy bacterium and various fungi, and I have seen this treatment work when others failed, especially when the colloidal treatment was rotated with the water-soluble tea tree oil douche.

Calendula

Here is a great douche, which is particularly effective around childbirth, or any time the vagina has been affected by any kind of trauma. This douche is very effective for any ongoing issues after an episiotomy or any vaginal tears. Calendula herbal tincture, and be sure to get the low-alcohol extract version, is one of the most anti-fungal of liquid me­dicinal herbs and is well known for its ability to heal skin rapidly. Use one dessertspoon of calendula tincture per 250ml tepid water and use this mixture to douche the vaginal area. Use a suitable applicator to irrigate the vagina deeply if possible. Just speak with your naturopath or herbalist who will be able to supply you with liquid calendula of a low-alcohol content.

Don’t want to use liquid herbal medicines or find it all too much? Another option is to use calendula cream or Kolorex (Horopito) cream. Kolorex cream or capsules is a New Zealand product that is available in USA. I do like oregano oil with yeast infections, and often recommend taking one or two capsules of this oil internally. If a person can handle a drop or two on their nails, then this is THE way to go.

Oregano oil is a bit like clove oil, it can be very powerful and extremely irritating, but when used very carefully it can be an absolute godsend. For a toothache for example I use clove oil, one drop and the pain is gone. If you do want to use oregano oil topically then I suggest you keep it well away from the eyes. Keep all essential oils well out of reach of children.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Rub a drop of pure grapefruit seed extract (GSE) onto the affected nail after you take a shower or bath each day. Make sure that when you apply it that a little actually goes under the nail as well. Now leave it on. Every 3-4 days use a paper nail file and gently file away a little of the nail surface gently and rub in another drop of GSE. Continue like this until the nail starts to look normal again. If the nail yeast infection is quite severe and deep seated it can take many weeks or even several months, but it will be worth it when your nails are beautiful again, won’t it? If you have tried the rest, try the best, GSE. I’d like you to try tea tree oil first because it clears up many cases of toe and fingernail fungus usually within 8-12 weeks with daily application.

Another trick is to alternate the tea tree oil or oregano oil and GSE on the nails, that way you are using the combined power of two strong natural products and choosing a more broad-spectrum approach. This will increase your chances of a quicker and more effective solution.
